Harman and his brother Willem were the first of our family to settle to America.
Willem arrived in New Amsterdam first around 1657 and became a very successful landowner
When he returned to the Netherlands for a visit he convinced Harman and his family to join him in the new land.
They reached America in 1662 aboard the Dutch merchant ship "Trouw".

Both brothers took advantage of the Dutch West Indies Land Program which was designed to colonize the area that is now New York City.
Harman and Willemken had been married in the Netherlands in 1653. They had six children together.
A farmer, Harman also became a prominent citizen of New Utrecht, Long Island.
Harman died at the age of 46.
