Notes for JORG PHILIP KLINGMAN:
The information on J. Philip Klingman is extracted from his will, dated January 3, 1774. He built and owned the Plough Tavern 8 miles south of Reading, PA. about 1844. There was a Georg Klingkann who arrived at the Port of Philadelphia aboard the ship "Phoenix" (click) on September 30, 1743. I believe this to be the J. Philip Klingman who wrote the will in 1774.
Notes for JACOB KLINGMAN:
Jacob was a clock-maker in Reading. One of his grandfather clocks, bearing the date 1776 and signed "Kling" survives in the Womens Clubhouse in Reading.
Notes for PETER KLINGMAN: (Lydia's Grandfather)
Peter was a pensioner of the Revolutionry War. Quoting Daniel Clingman,(son of Daniel- son of Peter). George Bower Klingman wrote the following narrative: "PETER KLINGMAN (the first, 1752-1848) a soldier of the Revolutionary War who fought at the battle of Trenton, N.J., crossing the Delaware River that Christmas night with George Washington's Army." He was granted a pension of $40.00 per year in 1834 by special act of the Pennsylvania legislature, Northumberland County ,(Union County after 1813). He plied the trade of shoemaker and farmer. Of his seven sons, Jacob, George and John were soldiers in the War of 1812. There were nine children; seven sons and two daughters.
