James Oliver was born in West Buffalo Township, Union County Pennsylvania on August 7, 1842. 

He was a farmer and a cooper.

He was married on October 18, 1881 in Pierson, Iowa to Sarah Margaret Huffman

James died on October 24, 1917. 

James and "Maggie" are buried in the Sabin Cemetery, Pearl City, Illinois

James Oliver's first born, Elmer, died early at age 18 and his daughter Gerti passed away suddenly at the age of 3.
