John was born in 1838 in Henderson, Illinois. He married Nancy on January 12, 1860, He was 22 years old and Nancy was 21.

At age 24' research suggests that John enlisted in the Illinois 91st Infantry Regiment and served as a chaplain for 2 years during the Civil War.

In the 1870 Census, his occupation is listed as "Farmer" and living in Henderson, Illinois.

John died at the age of 61.
