Seaman was born in Illinois, married Mary Hopp in Nebraska and was permanently living in Montana by the time he was 35.

The 1910 census has him working as a laborer in a sawmill. By 1930 he was running his own fruit farm.

The farm would have been located near Darby in the Bitter Root Valley. It was during the McIntosh Apple Boom that his daughter Sadie Belle met and married  Ernest Barklow.
