Mabel's Uncle Harvey Dutton
The Owen family originally came from Virginia. Her grandfather James Owen was born in Halifax County, Virginia on January 1, 1801. His family moved first to Kentucky and then to Woodford County, Illinois and were one the first settlers of that neighborhood. Mabel's grandfather seems to have been a leading citizen there acting as preacher as well as a farmer. It is said that he organized the first free school in the state.

Mabel's mother Julia's family originally came from Vermont and eventually settled in Woodford County, near the town of Metamora. Her parents were Norman and Nancy Dutton. She had a brother, Captain Harvey Dutton, who served in the civil war. Julia and her husband James had one son named Earnest and two daughters, Mable, and Madge. Madge was married to Fred Dunlap just a week before our wedding. They had one daughter, Marjorie, now living (1955) in Los Angeles with her second husband Herman Robinson
