Mary's father Elijah was a militiaman during the Revolutionary war. Later he was a member of the New York state legislature and a judge.
Her grandfather, Joseph Lee Jr. was also a Revolutionary War veteran.
Her ancestor William Lee settled in Hempstead Long Island in 1675 after immigrating from Kent and Nottingham England
